Thoughts on connection
I have to try to explain the way in which we connect to the heart of Jesus, and the best passage I can think of today reminds us of what Christians claim even if only half-hearted: "It is now no longer I that live but Christ lives within me." (Gal. 2:20)
Connecting with the heart of Jesus beneath the machines requires a certain reach that is reminiscent of a child extending her hands while standing on tip-toes wanting to be picked up by Daddy. We all reach up and out to experience God. We know God and come to a sense of touch from God who is all of Reality and the source of all that is real even though he has no physical hands to physically pick us up.
The heart responds to a call from God who may have no audible voice, and yet He speaks in everything he wishes, and primarily, he speaks in the depths of who we are.
I struggle to put to words today what I know I have come to experience and encounter in my life as it relates to the heart and Spirit of Christianity. I have come to fully embrace the love affair of my heart, and I cannot confine God to only the ideas and concepts I understand. The love of God is available to me to encounter, but it requires that I throw my hands into the air, let them swim in the beams, and allow God to carry me away into His mystery, His freedom, and His love.
