Imagine The Seed

Jesus says, "The Kingdom is like a mustard seed, which a man sowed in his field. Though it is the smallest of seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches." (Matthew 13:31-32)

Imagine holding one of those seeds in your hand while you stand at the base of a fully grown tree strong enough to have nests built into its branches.

Shift your eyes back and forth from seed to tree to seed to tree.

Now imagine the seed moving through each stage of its growth.

It is a long process, isn't it? So don't rush it.

Think of what it means to be small. To begin small.

Think of the discouragement of a seed's inability to become a tree over night. Think of the discouragement of years or seasons when it just doesn't germinate and lies dormant until the next season.

Think of the risk-taking process of breaking the surface for the first time to be exposed to the sun and air. Think of the risk in allowing your entire life and growth to be fully dependent on someone other than yourself with more knowledge and perspective than you could ever dream.

Think of just how much change you will experience to go from seed to tree. Think of the growing pains required for good change.

Think of the first time the sed produces useful fruit. How great that must feel, right? When that day comes, the seed must be thrilled to accomplish a purpose that took years to develop.

Think of how great it must be to see what the seed eventually produces go to feed and serve others. Imagine how crazy it must feel to shake from your overgrowth tiny seeds that can begin to grow from the same place you remember beginning.

Imagine al of these and do not lose sight of the real power that comes from God. None of the seed's growth is on its own will or effort, but its the power of God's Spirit instilled within.
