Texas BBQ and the Heart of Jesus
When I was in Dallas a few weeks ago I asked a friend who had moved there where I should go to get Texas BBQ. I followed one of his recommendations to a great place with enormous smokers and grills outside where you order your choice of meats by weight off the grill before moving inside for all the sides.
I text my friend while I enjoyed the tender perfectly smoked meats at the restaurant. He text me back and said, "Until you take a shower, people will know where you have been all over Dallas. That scent is unmistakable. They should bottle it!"
When Paul writes, "For we are a fragrance of Christ" in 2 Corinthians 2:15, it comes with a sense of having been saturated in the presence of that which we take to those around us. If we spend enough time and deliberate entanglement in the presence of God, it gets into us much the way great BBQ smoke gets into the fabric of our clothing.
When we are entangled more with the heart and presence of Jesus, we take His fragrance with us. Even if they cannot put words to it, people will know you have been with Jesus. That scent is unmistakable.
